Back to normal

Oh, the sheer unadulterated joy of being able to shower without a bucket to catch the drips, or turning taps on and off between soaking and soaping; the relief of not having to do the old English full body wash-down at the basin using water boiled in the kettle instead of running the tap till hot water appeared; the pleasure of being able to pour greasy washing-up water down the sink into my eagerly awaiting septic tank instead of lugging the bowl across the carpet to tip it onto my plants; the thrill of emptying all the pots, bowls and buckets down the driveway into the already waterlogged garden before returning them to their normal usage indoors; flushing of toilets with impunity; the freedom to wash summer clothing or bedding items before storing them away, knowing I wasn’t wasting drinking water. Thank you Mother Nature for releasing us.

But it’s too late for our poor lawn. Though we reseeded at great expense two years ago, the irretrievable dead tufts of grass and bare soil after all this rain give lie to the assertion that the lawn will “come back.” No, it won’t. Thanks SCRD for berating us to conserve instead of solving Sechelt’s water storage problem. But wait! We’re now on Stage 1 so we can turn sprinklers on! I don’t think so.
