Babies need adopting at home

Re: Hearts of Hope (Coast Reporter, May 29).

The Wilson family have done a wonderful job with three children. They are at school with my grandchildren and I admire Erin and Richard for their delightful family. But I feel compelled to write after reading the Hearts of Hope article. What about the children and babies born in Canada waiting to be adopted?

In 1976, we adopted our first child and ended up with four beautiful little girls, each with some form of a disability or medical problem - three Aboriginal and one Caucasian. They are now grown up; two live in Victoria and two on the Coast. One needs 24-hour care and is still in our home. Two of our girls are healthy, young women. One is legally blind, but is very self-sufficient, and we also have three grandchildren.

The purpose of this letter is to ask you to think about our babies and children. If you are thinking about adoption, talk to the people at the Ministry for Children and Families. Canadian adoptions come with no expense - all you need is lots of love and patience. There are babies and children who need families, or should we be advertising for people abroad to come and take our children to their country?
