Assaulting the CBC

The following letter was sent to MP John Weston and copied to Coast Reporter.

Dear Mr Weston:

Are you proud of your government for the latest radical cuts to Canadians’ public broadcaster, our precious CBC?

How can you support this assault on one of the strongest supports to Canadian unity and democracy? Do you not care about having an informed citizenry?

Going to online programming from broadcasting takes us in the direction of government’s ability to completely control the content. You may believe that is not true, but the hallmarks of Harper’s control are all over this.

Losing that much staffing capability and losing the documentary capability is knocking the stilts from under CBC. What other broadcaster in this country brings such quality and depth and breadth of coverage? None!

Are you afraid that CBC’s investigative journalism will uncover further embarrassments?

If you are a man of principle you will take your government to task and do what is needed to stop the attacks on CBC.

If this letter sounds rude that is because I am very angry about this. If this letter sounds personal that is because you are my MP and I need you to work for me.
