A wonderful interruption

Lunch time! Saturday! Heavy knocking on the door. Me to my wife: “Who would call right at lunch time?” Me to the door. Three girls, at a guess 8 to 11 years old. Me to myself: “What are they selling?” But nothing evident. The primus inter pares held out a bouquet of dandelions asking if I would like some flowers. What to say? “Thank you very much,” said I, as I accepted. They giggled, smiled and moved on – more dandelions at the ready, more houses to visit.

Imagine. My viewing of the lunch-hour news interrupted by this. I had missed Donald Trump’s latest reflective views on something, lurid details of world disasters and a litany of man’s inhumanity. Thank you, girls. I doubt you know just how wonderful that interruption was and how interesting it is to think that in the years to come you may be around to continue to provide inspiration and leadership. For now – I am still smiling hours later.
