Kudos to the Sherryl and Sechelt Public Library for the great poetry event on April 4! In celebration of Poetry Month, two local poets read their own work and the work of other poets. Micheal D. Mann and Richard Austin captured the small but mighty audience with their interpretations of the likes of Bob Dylan and Tupac, and kept us totally engaged with readings of their own work. Micheal Mann’s poem, “I Am a Man Who Cries,” from his book of the same name, is required reading.
“Poetry begins with a lump in the throat,” Robert Frost tells us, and to hear these poets read certainly brought me to that place. Richard’s way with the spoken word made the real world fall away; to experience poetry, well read, is a sublime experience. Please, if you can, plan to attend other amazing poetry experiences on the Coast and at the library this month. Go listen to someone read a poem; their own or someone else’s. The interpretation will astound you.
