A lesson in kindness

On the day of the night that Harry Paul died, he came to the Salvation Army Friday lunch in Gibsons. As one of the volunteers behind the counter, I helped to fill his plate. I have thought a lot about that since hearing of his death. It wasn’t the first time that I had served him food, but it was a shock to find that it was to be the last. The suddenness and finality of his death, the death of someone who was doing the best he could, as we all do, reminded me again of the importance of treating each person you meet with generosity and kindness regardless of his/her circumstances, mental, or physical condition. Generosity is always possible. Kindness is free and limitless.
