Jan DeGrass will be missed by many people in her role as Arts and Entertainment writer on the Coast. Yep, I’m one of the folks who’ll feel sad when she no longer shows up at events with “That Look” on her face – a look that says, “I’m On The Job – so here’s a smile, a crumb of sunny small-talk, and off I must go to look, listen, and jot down notes!”

Having moved here in 1999 – when Jan was just setting out on this long journey of informing us all of what was coming, what was here, who was doing what, and what it was about – Jan’s been part of my personal art-life story from Day One, and a treasured part of it. I appreciate so much her commitment to fairness, integrity, and accuracy, and am one of those many eager “arty types” who has relished and/or agonized over a turn of phrase crafted by her!

So thank you, Jan – for your warmth, for your love of all that we do and did, and for encouraging us to turn off the tube and get out to that opening, reception, dance, fundraiser, or cultural event!

Like Linda Williams and other treasures around these parts, you’re a genuine Sunshine Coast wonder!
