A fond farewell to the Coast

Views

Well, Sunshine Coast, this is my farewell to you. I have had an amazing life here with my husband and kids. We had lived in Calgary for 23 years when we decided we wanted to move to a smaller community. We thought moving here would provide us with a better life and education for our kids. Did we accomplish that? Yes we did, and more.

I have met so many people who have had an impact on my life. Farewell to my “Pod” family on BC Ferries. You made the commute a pleasing part of the day. Thanks!

Since working for Coast Reporter I have had the privilege to sit on the Sechelt and District Chamber of Commerce, Sechelt Downtown Business Association and the Gibsons Public Market/Capital Campaign board of directors. These organizations have all shared with me wisdom, courage, and friendship. Thank you.

I’m really going to miss my Thursday Ladies night at Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club. I have been golfing with Glenys, Sherry and sometimes Brenda for about eight years. It’s a perfect end to the day. I will miss our laughs, awesome golf and bread. I will always be your honourary sister.

Thank you very much, Glacier Media and Peter Kvarnstrom, for giving me the opportunity to lead and work with such an amazing team of talented people. We are an award-winning newspaper for a reason. It’s the people! We truly have the most hard-working, dedicated, and passionate team.

I also want to thank GBS for being Brian’s work family. In fact you were a family to all of us. I’m the only one in our house who didn’t work at GBS, and still I felt a part of the family, too. We will miss you all very much!

The next chapter in our lives is taking us to Armstrong, B.C., as I start a new career as the general manager of the Armstrong Interior Provincial Exhibition. It’s the largest exhibition in the Interior. I’m so lucky to have this opportunity to have my “dream job.” I keep thinking someone is going to wake me up. Shhh!

I can’t stop smiling and am thrilled for our next adventure. We will be closer to our son Damo and his girlfriend Jordan. Ariana and Clay plan on making a move to the Okanagan also. So excited to have everyone closer! Family is so important, and I can’t wait to have everyone close.

Thank you, Sunshine Coast, for being our home. Now I’m off to the rodeo. Yee-haw!
