’Twas the week before Christmas
And all through the town
People were waiting
For the budget to come down
So the draft budget or turkey
As it soon became called
Was offered for viewing
In hopes that people would not be appalled
The timing was perfect
As each citizen’s head
Was filled with ideas of giving
Definitely not tax increases instead
This Christmas, like most others,
And without saying a word
The mayor and council
Gave us the “bird.”
We were left with no instructions as to stuffing it.
