I am pleased that there is apparent movement towards providing affordable housing on the Coast. To the Town of Gibsons, I challenge you to come up with multiple-level, serviced, regular legal lots in a new development so this group can get building at a reasonable cost, immediately. Please stop wasting everyone’s time by offering up half lots that are rights-of-way or road ends on difficult terrain that are not legal lots by the Town’s standards. Why is the Town even considering spot zoning and bending bylaws for this group while spending our tax dollars to somehow make it work?
This is a new group that needs tons of assistance now, not building lots that need special zoning and studies and public hearings. They need easy build lots and the funds the Town has been collecting from developers for affordable housing. So why has the Town approved a $4,000 expenditure to study this thing to death, wasting precious time?
So get down to business, Gibsons – stop bogging these guys down, and stop spending our tax money to study the viability of illegal lots. Give them what they need to start building immediately, so they can get a good start at tackling this huge problem.
