Roadwork on Trail Avenue has been halted due to an archeological discovery, the District of Sechelt said Monday.

Possible artifacts were found on Friday, Feb. 7 during work to install a storm sewer line on the street. “As a result, the work on the project stopped to allow for further investigations,” the district said.

The investigation is expected to continue until about Feb. 18.

The district contracted with In Situ Archaeological Consulting to monitor the site during the installation of storm sewer lines on Trail Avenue.

“As artifacts may have been discovered, the consultant will be reviewing all of the material removed from the site before work can continue,” the district said.

Both lanes on Trail Avenue will remain open during the construction delay.
