A house fire on Bridgeman Road Monday morning has been quelled and does not pose a wildfire risk, according to the RCMP.
RCMP were first on scene to the call that came in about 11 a.m. and confirmed no people were inside the residence, said a press release.
While no people were inside, some family pets have yet to be located, said Gibsons and District Volunteer Fire Department chief Rob Michael.
Gibsons responded with 24 firefighters and Roberts Creek had five firefighters attend, said Michael.
Damage to the building is extensive, said Michael. The top floor is a complete loss and firefighters are unable to safely gain access to determine extent of damage to the first floor.
As of 1:15 p.m., firefighters were still dealing with hot spots and had not yet fully extinguished the fire.
The fire's cause is under investigation –– anyone with information is asked to call Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266.
Michael noted they had multiple reports of smoke in the area on social media and to his email address –– Michael stresses that when people see smoke, they need to call 911 to ensure it's reported through that service.
Michael also noted that they were rotating firefighters frequently so they wouldn't get too hot fighting the fire on the warm summer's day.
"These are volunteers that have left their jobs, or other duties, and family responsibilities to come and assist the community," he noted.
RCMP note there's local traffic only on Bridgeman Road, with access from North Road.
