A 54-year-old part-time resident of Halfmoon Bay has been charged with second-degree murder in the Aug. 21 death of her husband.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is heading the investigation into the death of Max Fischer, 79, with assistance from Sunshine Coast RCMP.

A release from IHIT Friday morning said Karin Fischer was arrested shortly after police were called to a home in the 10900 block of the Sunshine Coast Highway around 9 p.m. Aug. 21 by neighbours, and after "emergency responders found suspicious injuries on Mr. Fischer."

The Fischers are German citizens with a second home on the Coast.

Karin Fischer is being held in custody, and made her first court appearance Aug. 23 in Sechelt.

No other details have been released.

"IHIT investigators remain in Sechelt continuing their investigation and collecting further evidence," said Sgt. Frank Jang.
