Members of the Sunshine Coast Bear Alliance are hoping to attract volunteers as the group builds an education program intended for students on the Sunshine Coast.

“Our goal is to assist our youth in developing the awareness, knowledge, skills, and commitment to result in informed decisions, responsible behaviour and constructive action concerning wildlife and the environment,” said Shirley Patterson in a letter to Coast Reporter.

The retired teacher said she has created a curriculum for students from kindergarten to Grade 12 using methods she learned from the non-profit Creative Education Foundation, and plans to approach School District No.46.

Volunteers are also needed for administrative tasks and other duties.

The group formed in the fall of 2019 in response to human-wildlife conflicts.

The volunteer recruitment meeting will be held Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Gibsons Public Market in the Coastal Room from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
