Sunshine Coast RCMP say they’ve have had two more reports of catalytic converter thefts.

In a release issued on the weekend, Sunshine Coast RCMP said a Honda Element was targeted on Marine Drive in Gibsons on Friday, Dec. 6.

The next day, the catalytic converter was cut off another Honda Element parked on Trident Avenue in Sechelt.

The replacement cost of the converters for those models is estimated at $1,500.

RCMP also reported that someone stole a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked on Highway 101 near Redrooffs Road on Nov. 20.

The converters, part of the exhaust system on vehicles, contain metal that can be sold for scrap, including palladium, rhodium and platinum and police on the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island have reported a spike in converter thefts over the past few months.

RCMP are asking anyone with information on the thefts to contact the detachment at 604-885-2266 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
