More than 8,000 mail-in votes expected in Powell River-Sunshine Coast

According to the latest update from Elections BC, 8,338 voters in Powell River-Sunshine Coast have requested mail-in ballots – a significant increase over the 114 people who voted by mail in the riding in 2017. Elections BC said as of 11:59 p.m.

According to the latest update from Elections BC, 8,338 voters in Powell River-Sunshine Coast have requested mail-in ballots – a significant increase over the 114 people who voted by mail in the riding in 2017.

Elections BC said as of 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 18, roughly 235,800 vote-by-mail packages had been returned out of the 725,000 or so that were requested provincewide. Elections officials have not released riding-by-riding data on the number of packages returned.

If you have not yet mailed your ballot, Elections BC recommends returning it in person to make sure it is received by the deadline of 8 p.m. on Oct. 24.

Mail-in ballots can be dropped off at district electoral offices, at polling places during advance voting or on election day and at some Service BC locations, including the one in Sechelt at 5498 Wharf Ave.

As of Oct. 18 there had been 5,504 advance ballots cast in the riding. The final advance vote count in 2017 was 6,361. Advance voting continues until Oct. 21.

There are 41,282 registered voters in Powell River-Sunshine Coast.
