Gibsons Mayor Wayne Rowe was the guest of honour at a heartfelt tribute on Sept. 29 at Gibsons Public Market. Rowe will be passing on the mayoral baton with the coming municipal election. He was recognized for his “outstanding service to our community in the practice of law, business and civic politics” and his “unwavering leadership, personal integrity, humility, and deep commitment to the public good.” Rowe’s wife Joanne Pearson, sons Jesse and Cameron, daughter Michelle and other family members joined him for the celebration. The gala event and auction was also a fundraiser for the Gibsons Community Building Society (GCBS) that operates the Market. Funds raised go to the development of community programs at the Market and the Nicholas Sonntag Marine Education Centre.
