A March 29 fire destroyed a temporary shelter a pair of homeless people had left in the parking lot of the Sechelt Legion on Wharf Avenue.

A temporary, mobile shelter constructed by a pair of homeless people and seen frequently in Sechelt over the last few months was destroyed by fire March 29.

The fire occurred in the parking lot of the Sechelt Legion on Wharf Avenue.

Sechelt Fire Chief Trevor Pike said the call came in around 4 p.m. but by the time firefighters arrived, the structure couldn’t be saved.

Pike said heat from the flames damaged some of the siding on Legion building, but the fire did not spread.

No one was hurt and the fire is still under investigation by the Sechelt Fire Department and RCMP.
