The public is now able to email reports of suspected fishing violations, along with pictures or other information, to fisheries officers.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) in the Pacific Region is now taking reports of suspicious fishing activity and suspected violations via email.

DFO announced the new system Sept. 10 and said the email reports will go directly to fishery officers via the Observe, Record, Report system.

“The addition of this new eye-witness reporting method enables people who cannot phone in their tips support the ongoing efforts of fishery officers electronically, and to forward any digital information they are supplying,” said DFO media relations advisor Leri Davies.

As well as the new email, DFO.ORR-ONS.MPO@dfo-mpo.gc.ca, DFO will continue taking reports on the Observe, Record, Report toll free line at: 1-800-465-4336.
