Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers is looking for volunteers to support its anonymous tip program and crime prevention activities on the Sunshine Coast.
Sechelt has been experiencing a large spike in businesses break-ins and other property crimes, which started in the summer and has prompted the Sechelt Downtown Business Association to host a downtown business safety forum next week. The forum will bring business owners together with RCMP, RainCity Housing, the Community Action Team and other stakeholders.
“We’re pleased to be part of Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers and appreciate its work to prevent crime in Sechelt,” said Sechelt Mayor Darnelda Siegers. “I urge anyone who can anonymously help solve any crime to call Crime Stoppers. This goes for everything from gang activity, illegal weapons, thefts and homicide, to elder abuse, bullying, fraud and even environmental crimes like poaching or pollution.”
Earlier this year, the District of Sechelt awarded Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers a $1,500 Community Investment Program.
Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers operates in communities across the Lower Mainland and from Boston Bar to Powell River, offering rewards for anonymous information about criminal activity.
“Any information we receive anonymously on any kind of crime is immediately passed to the relevant authorities for investigation. Your name and contact information will not be taken, and you’ll never be questioned or required to testify in court,” said Linda Annis, executive director for Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers.
Crime Stoppers has several ways people can submit tips, including a crime reporting app called “P3,” the Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-800-222-8477, and online at solvecrime.ca. If the information provided results in a charge or an arrest, a cash reward may be offered.
