Coast Reporter was named first for General Excellence in its circulation class at the British Columbia and Yukon Community Newsmedia Association’s 2019 Ma Murray Awards Gala on Saturday, April 27.
“A thoroughly impressive effort that covers all facets of life on the Coast,” the judges said of Coast Reporter in their summary.

“Wonderful community coverage, captivating photos, and great use of colour. An eye-catching and very satisfying community paper.”
The judges based their decision on two issues of each newspaper published during randomly selected months in 2018. Papers were scored in 12 separate categories.

Finishing in second place was Whistler-based Pique Newsmagazine while third-place honours went to Alaska Highway News.

The annual awards gala was held in the theatre at River Rock Casino in Richmond. Publisher Peter Kvarnstrom and editor and associate publisher John Gleeson accepted the Ma Murray trophy on behalf of the paper, attributing the win to the talent and professionalism of Coast Reporter’s dedicated staff.
