Powell River Gymnastics Society team hits significant milestone

Two competitors honoured with award at recent competition

In February Powell River Gymnastics Society’s competitive team travelled to Langley to participate in the Christy Fraser Memorial Invitational, with a total of 19 athletes ranging in age from 7 to 17 years of age representing the qathet region.

"Among the 1,100 registered athletes, the Powell River team truly stood out, bringing home an impressive collection of medals,” said Joleen Dew, the society’s office administrator, in an email to the Peak.

The team took home 19 first-place medals, six for second place and 11 for coming in third.

"This competition marked a significant milestone for some of the team members, as it was their first time competing," added Dew. "Despite the nerves and pressure, these athletes demonstrated remarkable composure and determination, leaving a lasting impression on both their teammates and the audience."

Competitors Peggy Liu and Irie Ladner were both given the Christy Fraser Award, which acknowledges an athlete's exceptional determination and positive attitude throughout the competition.
