Forward Karter McNarland represented Powell River Kings at the recent BC Hockey League (BCHL) 60th Anniversary All-Star Weekend in Penticton.

Team East defeated McNarland’s Team West 6-2 in the top prospects game at South Okanagan Events Centre on January 20.

The next day, McNarland competed in the fastest skater competition during the skills events, which were held on an outdoor rink. Mateo Dixon of the Coquitlam Express earned the title of fastest skater.

Josh Nadeau (Penticton Vees) won the accuracy shooting contest; his teammate Bradly Nadeau recorded the hardest shot. Nathan Mackie (Salmon Arm Silverbacks) won the puck control relay contest, and Surrey Eagles’ goaltender Eli Pulver took home the hardware in the breakaway save competition.

For the four-team, three-on-three outdoor all-star tournament, also held on January 21, McNarland joined players from Vancouver Island-based BCHL teams as a member of Team Courtnall, which advanced to the final but lost to Team Turris.

Former National Hockey League players Scott Niedermayer, Brendan Morrison, Kyle Turris, Geoff Courtnall and Garry Valk took part in an alumni and friends game, which was also held on the outdoor rink.

McNarland, who currently leads the Kings in points with 25 (six goals, 19 assists) in 34 games, and his teammates return to action this weekend in Nanaimo with a pair of games against the Clippers. Game time is 7 pm at Frank Crane Arena on Friday, January 27, and Saturday, January 28.
