Earlier this month, six Elphinstone Secondary students went to SFU to wrestle in “War on the Floor.” Wrestlers from Washington State, Edmonton, and Calgary all came to wrestle the best in B.C.

Saturday saw Maddy Van Der Stelt tied for third and Lia Trent finishing second with an invitation to come back to compete in the elite division Sunday.

Sunday saw Lia having an amazing day. Dylan Drope finished fifth overall in a massive weight division. Hayden Van Der Stelt finished third in the land of giants. As Hayden finished his final match, he was met by Mitch Ostberg from University of Calgary who offered him a spot on the university team next year training at the national centre with the Canadian Olympic Coach.

Ethan Sullivan won first overall and then had to wrestle again to win a spot on Team B.C. He won everything and is now invited to train over the holidays, so he can fly to Calgary to represent Team B.C. at this national team meet.

Coaches Mike Rines and Eric Sullivan couldn’t be any prouder of this crew!

Superintendent Kate Kerr congratulates the students on all their hard work and success this year and gives a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated coaches for their time and support.
