More than 380 School District 46 elementary students attended their first track meet in over two and a half years last Friday, under brilliant sunshine and none of the rain that had been predicted for the day.

The high jump event, which was usually held at Chatelech on the Thursday, was moved to Roberts Creek, where those athletes dominated the event, but no school district records were established on this day.

With the help of Elphi PE teachers, Owen Shutz and Sara Mani’s PE student volunteers, there was plenty of action all day in the field events of shot put, long jump, discus and ball throw. Runners competed in the 100 metre, 800 metre, 1200 metre, sprint medley relay, and the always exciting last event of the day, the 4 x 100 metre relay with all 10 elementary schools taking part. After very little competition being had in the elementary schools over the past couple of years, it was exciting to see the excitement these young athletes generated over the course of the two days.
