Youth between the ages of 16 and 24 have until Aug. 12 to apply to be on the Prime Minister’s Youth Council and meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in early October.

The Youth Council is being set up to provide non-partisan advice to the Prime Minister on national issues of importance to young people, like employment, climate change and education.

“Listening to the issues that matter most to young people is an important commitment of this government,” a release from the government of Canada said.

The new youth council will be comprised of 30 young people from diverse backgrounds and regions and will meet online and in person several times a year.

Travel and accommodation costs will be covered for youth council members when they’re required to travel and council members will be compensated for their time while on youth council business.

Youth council members will serve for a two year term and applications have to be sent in during one of two “waves” of intakes. The first wave will end on Aug. 12 and the second wave ends on Oct. 7.

A total of 300 youth from both intakes will be selected for video interviews. From those videos, 30 youth will be chosen to represent Canada’s young people on the Prime Minister’s Youth Council.

Youth can submit their applications by filling out an online form at www.canada.ca/en/campaign/prime-ministers-youth-council.html
