Sunshine Coast Women's Municipal Campaign School will run again this fall thanks to the huge success of the inaugural event in 2008. Local businesswoman, Margaret Page, will once again spearhead the initiative to involve more women in local politics.
"According to the United Nations mandate, 30 per cent of positions in any government should be filled by women. After the last local municipal election, one-third of the seats were won by women and from the feedback we received from attendees, it would appear that the women's campaign school was helpful in both cementing women's decisions to run and in helping them get elected. We hope to build on that success this year," Page said.
The school will run Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gibsons Community Centre. Cost is $25 per person and includes lunch.
