Winter blues set to Gogo

Winter's gone and spring is on its way, so it must be time for David Gogo to appear. He's melted many a winter here on the Sunshine Coast, and he'll do it again on Saturday, March 15, at the Roberts Creek Hall.

Winter's gone and spring is on its way, so it must be time for David Gogo to appear. He's melted many a winter here on the Sunshine Coast, and he'll do it again on Saturday, March 15, at the Roberts Creek Hall.

Gogo has been in the music scene for more than 20 years, racking up awards and playing with the likes of Little Feat, Johnny Winter, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, Downchild Blues Band, Colin Linden and the Tragically Hip.

Born in Nanaimo and introduced to the guitar at age five, Gogo began gigging in earnest at age 16. Drawn to the emotional power and raw depth of performers like Howling Wolf and Son Horse, he's a natural born musician with the ability to blend blues, soul and rock in an electric performance. His fifth CD, Skeleton Key, brought an innovative texture to his music. A later release, Vibe, is all original Gogo.

When Gogo was here in 2004, he had just been named guitarist of the year at the Maple Blues Awards in Toronto, and went from multiple Maple Blues Awards to Junos. Juno-nominated Acoustic was released in 2007. In 2008, Gogo is nominated for an Indie Award as favourite blues artist of the year.

Gogo knows his way around a guitar for sure. His pristine blues play perfect counterpoint to his whiskey-on-demand baritone.

Gogo brings his winning brand of blues to Roberts Creek Hall on Saturday, March 15, courtesy of the Live Music Society. Doors open at 8:30, dance at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20, available at Roberts Creek Health Food Store, WindSong Gallery and Gaia's Fair Trade Gifts.
