The Friends of the Sechelt Public Library hosted a special Coffeehouse on June 9 to celebrate and congratulate the winners of the 2004 Writing Contest.

The theme, "It Happened on a Dark and Stormy Night," attracted 118 entries from three categories, child, youth and adult. The 15 adult entries were the most ever received.

Maya Broeke won the child category with second prize to Ben Eaton and third prize awarded to Stephanie Fitzsimmons. A special certificate of recognition was presented to Dylan Broeke who, at the age of four, was the youngest entrant. The youth category prize winters were Jonathan Williams, first prize; Joel Heney, second; and Ben Drugmand, third. All entries were read with gusto to an appreciative audience. Adult winner were Louise LeFebvre, Eric Zasburg and Audrey Owens. The creative interpretations of the theme were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.

The next Friends of the Sechelt Public Library event is the L.R. Wright Mystery Tour on Sept. 11. The object of the tour is to find the places on the Sunshine Coast mentioned in L. R. Wright's books. Clues for the 2004 hunt can be found in Wright's The Suspect and Prized Possessions. There is plenty of time to read and prepare for a fun day. Further details are available at the Sechelt Public Library.
