Why was there tree clearing on Sechelt Inlet Road last week?

It's in preparation for a project

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) began clearing trees along East Porpoise Bay and Sechelt Inlet Road, where the ministry plans to add sidewalks and a bike lane. MOTI said this will tie into municipal infrastructure at either end. All of the work is being done within an existing ministry right-of-way, and residents within the clearing limits from Delta Road and Xenichen Avenue were notified in person.

“In consideration of the local eagle population, in preparation for the project the ministry took advantage of the bird nesting window when birds aren’t actively nesting to do site clearing work,” a ministry spokesperson said. “A sweep of the site was done prior to clearing to ensure no active nests would be affected.”

There is no timeline for construction, as the project is still in the design phase.
