Last week, when member of Parliament for West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country John Weston attended meetings in Bowen Island, Powell River, and the Sunshine Coast, he was travelling a little more slowly than what you might expect of someone who represents one of the largest ridings in Canada. He was on his bicycle.

Weston met with constituents to identify local priorities. He attended the Oct. 13 opening of the new trades center at Vancouver Island University's Powell River Campus; and while riding down the Sunshine Coast, Weston was joined by the Sunshine Coast Cycling Association.

Weston's riding-wide ride reflects his constituents' emphasis on health and fitness; and it builds on his related efforts. Weston recently successfully lobbied the House of Commons to furnish a place for MPs to shelter their bikes; and he continues to spearhead the Parliamentary Fitness Initiative, which each week brings together MPs and senators from all parties to run and swim before work.

Weston concluded the first leg of the ride - through the North Shore and the corridor -late August. Weston rode the remainder of the riding last week.

"Meeting with constituents and hearing their concerns is what makes the work in Ottawa," said Weston, "and it's an honour to serve."
