On Aug. 18, staff witnessed an alleged shoplifter at a businessin the 900 block of Gibsons Way.One of the stafffollowedthe suspect until sheleft the business premises, and then questioned her about the items she had allegedly taken. The suspect returned the items, but refused to return to the businessand walked away. Thesuspect was located a short distance away, arrested by police and is facing a charge of theft under $5,000.

On Aug. 15, a thief stole a vehicle from the pay parking lot at the Langdale ferry terminal, drove it a few hundred metres and abandoned it on the side of the road near Marine Drive and Port Mellon Highway. Nothing was stolen or damaged.

This is the third incident of vehicle tampering at the terminal in the past four weeks. RCMP are asking the public to report all suspicious persons or occurrences by calling the Sechelt detachment at 604-885-2266.

Early on Aug. 16, a thief stole a vehicle from a residence in the 1500 block of Hanbury Road. The vehicle, which had been left unlocked with a spare set of keys inside, wasrecovered the same day, heavily damaged up a trail off Lockyer Road. The registered owner's wallet and belongings were found inside the vehicle intact.

On Aug. 16, a thief stole a child's purple flowered swim bag and black pack with all its contents, as well a set of keys and 30 bus tickets from another bag that had been left unsecured in a communal room at a business in the 5500 block of Shorncliffe Avenue.

Overnight on Aug. 13, a thief entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the 5400 block of Sinku Drive and stole a pairof men'sprescription glasses and a Roots iPod holder.

A single-vehicle accident occurred in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street after a driver applied the gas instead of the brakes and collided into a building. The driver and passengers were uninjured and thedamage to the vehicle was minor. The damage to the building was substantial. The "N"driver was issued a violation ticket for drive without due care and drive contrary to restrictions.

On Aug. 12,a thief stole approximately 30 sockeye salmon from a residence in the 5700 block of Kwatamus Avenue.

Sometime in early to mid-August, an Apple iPhone 4 was found at Shoppers Drug Mart in Sechelt. The owner has not returned to the store to retrieve the phone, nor have they reported the phone to local police as lost or stolen. The phone has personal pictures and an auto-lock feature. Sunshine Coast RCMP ask that the owner please contact the RCMP at 604-885-2266, or attend the Sechelt detachment in order to claim the phone.
