Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for April 5 to 12:
A two-vehicle accident occurred on the corner of Dolphin Street and Inlet Avenue after a vehicle on Inlet attempted to cross Dolphin and struck a second vehicle going southbound on Dolphin. The second vehicle was broadsided and both vehicles sustained major damage. No serious injuries were reported. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
A possible impaired driver was reported in the 400 block of Marine Drive after a witness noted the driver smelled of alcohol and was behaving in an intoxicated manner. The witness provided the vehicle licence plate number, driver and vehicle description and direction of travel. The suspect vehicle was located in the 1400 block of Highway 101 and the female driver was questioned. The driver admitted to having consumed a large amount of alcohol the night before, but nothing on this day. She was given two roadside alcohol-screening tests and failed both. The driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Sometime between March 23 and April 7, a black Panasonic Lumix digital camera was lost in Sechelt. The very new camera, model FZ100, had a 32 GB memory card.
On April 1, a thief attempted to break into a vehicle parked in the 4700 block of Highway 101 by prying open the rear passenger doors. The thief did not gain entry and nothing was stolen, however, the vehicle was damaged.
Sometime between April 5 and 6, a vandal set fire to a paper towels in a public washroom in Hackett Park. Minimal damage was caused, but a toilet paper dispenser was pulled down as well. Police are reviewing surveillance footage.
On April 6, a witness reported a possible arson after seeing a group of youth setting things on fire behind an address in the 900 block of Gibsons Way. Police attended and found that the youth were actually participating in an outdoor education course that included learning to light a cooking fire.
Sometime overnight April 5 and 6, thieves stole two large boat propellers from an address in the 1300 block of Roberts Creek Road. The two brass propellers are 36" in diameter and each weighs approximately 250 pounds. One of the propellers is a newer four-blade with 36" and 28" stamped near the bore. The second propeller is a three-blade. Both propellers have a 2 1/4" bore which is unusual. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266, reference file 11-2074.
Sometime between April 9 and 11, a thief broke into a business in the 700 block of North Road by prying open the front door. Two flat irons as well as a small amount of cash (including money from a chocolate fundraising box) were stolen.
Early on April 10, a thief stole a vehicle from a residence in the 5500 block of Memmiman Street, but returned it later in the morning in damaged condition. The vehicle was towed to the police station for further investigation.
Early on April 11, a confirmed break and enter occurred at a business after a thief broke through a door to gain entry and stole four unopened bottles of liquor and a cash box with a small amount of cash. A witness, who reported hearing the sound of breaking glass, saw a male walking away quickly from the scene, but was unable to get a description. A second break and enter at the same location was reported several hours later. The suspect(s) broke the temporary barricade on the door and rummaged through the business before stealing all the available liquor and a supply of lobsters. Police are reviewing surveillance footage. ??
