Weekly police report

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Sept. 27 to Oct. 4: Overnight on Sept 25, a thief gained entry into two unlocked vehicles parked in the 600 block of Henry Road and stole a GPS and charger. No further theft or damage was reported.

Overnight on Sept 25, a thief gained entry into two unlocked vehicles parked in the 600 block of Henry Road and stole a GPS and charger. No further theft or damage was reported.

Between Sept. 29 and Oct. 2, thieves gained entry into unlocked vehicles in the 1100 block of Rosamund Road and rifled through glove boxes. The thief stole an underwater camera, Oakley sunglasses an iPod Touch and some cash from one of the vehicles.

The RCMP would like to remind vehicle owners to lock and secure their vehicles; that leaving their vehicle unsecured carries an $81 fine under the motor vehicle act.

On Sept. 28, a thief broke into a residence in the 1500 block of Reed Road by smashing a sliding glass door. The thief stole a Hewlett-Packard laptop and some cash.

On Sept. 28, an officer witnessed a vehicle speeding northbound on the Port Mellon Highway. Radar confirmed the vehicle was going in excess of 40km over the posted speed limit. The officer conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle in Langdale and issued the driver a violation ticket for excessive speed, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

On Sept. 28, a single-vehicle accident occurred in the 12900 block of Madeira Park Road after a truck spun out and hit a hydro pole. When police arrived, they found the vehicle with a deployed airbag, but no sign of any driver or occupants. BC Hydro was called out to deal with the downed wires. The file is still under investigation.

On Sept. 29, two male suspects were witnessed shoplifting from a business in the 5700 block of Cowrie Street. The witness provided detailed descriptions of the suspects and an officer located the two males a short distance away. The males, who were caught on surveillance video, were arrested and are facing a charge of theft under $5,000.

On Sept. 29, a vandal threw rocks through a window of a building in the 800 block of Gibsons Way. A staff member was working in the area when the mischief occurred, but was unhurt. Police are reviewing surveillance footage.

A single-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 101 near Sea Fiddler Lane after a southbound vehicle lost control and hit a tree. The lone driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment. The vehicle sustained significant damage and had to be towed. Road conditions and weather are considered factors.

Between Sept. 30 and Oct. 2, a thief broke into a business compound in the 1100 block of Stewart Road by cutting through a fence. The thief gained entry into six vehicles parked in the compound and stole parts from one of them. The file is still under investigation.
