Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for July 12 to 19:
Sometime between July 3 and 5, thieves gained entry into an unlocked outbuilding in the 5400 block of Eureka Road and stole a "Powerboard." The building was not damaged and nothing else was taken, and the personal water craft was later found by the owner on a nearby beach.
A thief broke into a business in the 5700 block of Teredo Street by smashing a window with two small rocks. The alarm was triggered, and the thief did not gain entry into the premises, but did manage to steal two Gucci purses.
Sometime in the last six months, a thief stole a large amount of netting from a business in the 3200 block of Highway 101.
Late on July 14, a theft was reported at a business in the 5500 block of Wharf Road after a staff member witnessed a male leave the premises with something hidden in his coat, and upon his departure, confirmed missing stock. The suspect was located nearby with the stolen item, and arrested. The file is still under investigation.
Two women's rings were found at a business in the 5700 block of Teredo Street. The owner may claim with a detailed description, quote file 2011-4782.
A thief stole a silk street lamp banner from the 200 block of Gower Point Road. The banner, which is approximately 1' x 3' has a mermaid painted on it.
Police responded to a hazardous situation in the 1300 block of Port Mellon Highway after a concerned citizen reported a mother duck and her ducklings blocking the highway near the ferry terminal entrance. The ducks were gone upon police arrival, but the officer spotted the family travelling quickly up the by-pass where one of the ducklings fell into a storm drain, and the officer was able to rescue it and returned it to the mother. The ducks were escorted safety off the highway and no further complaints were received.
On July 17, a thief gained entry into an unlocked vehicle parked in the 800 block of Mountainview Drive and stole a pair of prescription glasses. The case had been taken out of the glove compartment and left open and empty in the vehicle. The glasses were located, smashed, down the street.
