Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Aug. 30 to Sept. 2:
On Aug. 31, a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way reported three male youths who had been witnessed shoplifting some items before leaving the store. An officer located the youths nearby and two of the youths admitted to the theft. All three youths were taken home to their parents, who agreed to pay the business back for the stolen items.
On Aug. 30, a driver reported a possible dangerous driver after being cut-off by another vehicle in the 5500 block of Highway 101. A vehicle and driver description and licence plate number were provided. Police located the second driver, who provided an opposing account of the incident, advising that the first driver had actually been the dangerous driver as she had accelerated, not allowing him to merge, and therefore had to apply the brakes as a result when he'd moved in front of her. Both drivers were cautioned about road rage and to practice safer driving habits.
A possible impaired driver was reported in the 5700 block of Kwatamus Avenue after a witness saw the driver drinking and speeding around the area. Police located the vehicle and the intoxicated driver. The driver, who did not have a valid driver's licence, failed a roadside alcohol-screening test and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition. The uninsured vehicle was impounded and the driver, who was issued violation tickets for having no licence or insurance, was arrested for being drunk in public and lodged in cells until sober.
Overnight between Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, a thief broke into a locked vehicle parked in the 4500 block of Hupit Street, causing light damage to the driver's side door, and stole the faceplate off a Kenwood car stereo. No other theft was reported.
