Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for July 20 to 26: On July 22, a suspect broke into a residence in the 5400 block of Burley Place by breaking a window to gain access. Nothing was stolen.

On July 22, a suspect broke into a residence in the 5400 block of Burley Place by breaking a window to gain access. Nothing was stolen. The suspect, who sustained injuries from the broken glass, was located a short distance away, was arrested and is facing a charge for break and enter.

Overnight July 24, a thief broke into a storage unit in the 3900 block of Highway 101 by prying open the door. Three adult-sized bows and 40 to 60 arrows were stolen. The bows are white with wooden handles and are approximately four-feet long.

An on-duty officer witnessed a possible impaired driver on Highway 101 near Trail Avenue heading north. The suspect driver crossed the double solid lines several times until the officer pulled the vehicle over near Norwest Bay Road. The suspect, who exhibited obvious signs of intoxication, failed two roadside alcohol-screening tests. The suspect was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

On July 21, a thief snatched a purse from a public washroom in the 5700 block of Cowrie Street. The owner was unable to catch the fleeing female suspect, but two passers-by assisted the owner by following the suspect to another business in the 5500 block of Inlet Avenue. Police arrested a 24-year-old Sechelt woman and recovered the stolen purse, which had been hidden in a garbage can.

Sunshine Coast RCMP would like to remind the public to be mindful of their purses and belongings when in public settings as thieves are targeting unattended items.

A Coast resident was defrauded by a common scam where the fraudster convinces the victim to purchase computer virus protection over the phone. The victim answered the fraudster's questions, performed some steps on-line, and gave out credit card info. Unfortunately, instead of receiving any virus protection, the victim discovered her computer had been hacked. Early on July 21, a resident in the 5700 block of Dolphin Street heard noises in the driveway and upon investigation, discovered a thief had gained entry into an unlocked vehicle and rifled through documents found in the glove box. Nothing appears to have been stolen.

Overnight on July 21, a vandal tagged a building in the 5500 block of Shorncliffe Avenue with black and red markers. One of the words included "showcase" with a number "five" in place of the "S."

On the morning of July 20, a hit and run occurred in the 5400 block of Shorncliffe Avenue after a parked vehicle was struck by another vehicle, possibly a red truck which had been seen beside the damaged vehicle shortly before the damage was discovered. The parked vehicle was damaged on the driver's side tail light and rear quarter panel.

On July 20, a bike and some accessories were left near Reed and North roads overnight. The owner may claim the items by providing RCMP with detailed descriptions. Please reference file 11-4926 if you call or visit the Sechelt detachment.

Early on July 19, a break and enter at a business in the 5700 block of Teredo Street was reported after two passers-by noticed a broken window. The thief used a hammer, which was found nearby, to break the double-paned glass, however, it does not appear the thief fully gained entry into the premises. A Lenova Thinkpad laptop computer, model T61, was stolen. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and are still investigating.
