Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Aug. 3 to 10:
A caller reported a possible truck rolled over on the side of the by-pass leading to the Langdale ferry terminal. Police attended the area described by the caller and did not locate any vehicles. However, further down the bypass, police did find a very large cardboard box and some garbage, which was dealt with by the officer and Capilano Highways.
On Aug. 3, a Coast resident was surprised to see his vehicle abandoned on the side of Highway 101 near Redrooffs Road in Halfmoon Bay. The resident had not reported the vehicle stolen, as he had not known until then that the vehicle was missing. The vehicle had been left at a local repair shop in the 1000 block of Gibsons Way, and when the resident contacted the shop owner, the shop owner advised he'd thought the owner had come to pick up the vehicle before it could be repaired. The open-top, unlockable vehicle is believed to have been stolen from outside the repair shop sometime between July 29 and 30. Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266.
On Aug. 4, a Good Samaritan turned in a bag found near Secret Beach that contained personal belongings and a camera. The owner may claim from the RCMP by providing make and model of camera and detailed description of other items and reference file 10-6146.
On Aug. 5, a passerby reported a dogfight on Davis Bay beach and possible injuries to one of the owners. Police attended and located one dog owner whose two off-leash pit bulls had attacked a third dog. Both dog owners received minor injuries in the scuffle to separate the animals. The owner of the off-leash dogs agreed to pay for the vet costs to treat the injured third dog. The matter has been referred to the local bylaw officer.
Early on Aug. 6, a resident in the 700 block of Tricklebrook Way was awoken by her car alarm. Police attended and found one of the vehicle door's ajar, and the contents strewn about inside. However, it doesn't appear anything was stolen. While investigating this complaint, a second call about another insecure vehicle came in from the 800 block of O'Shea Road in Gibsons. The owner advised the car had been left unlocked and a thief had entered it and ransacked the contents as well. However, again, nothing was stolen.
On Aug. 6, in the 800 block of O'Shea Road, a police officer noticed a vehicle covered in what appeared to be red paint. Closer examination revealed that it was actually red nail polish that had been dumped on the vehicle. This mischief may be related to the two break-ins to vehicles in the area.
A vehicle break-in that occurred July 30 in the 13000 block of Wittet Road was reported on Aug. 6. The thief smashed a window of the vehicle and stole a number of items including a pair of Leopold binoculars, tools, a GPS, Mendel hunting boots, an air compressor, two bike helmets, a chainsaw, a floater jacket and a hunting pack.
On Aug. 7, a caller reported hearing blood-curdling screams coming from the area of Soames Hill. Police attended Soames Park Hill and located a male who advised he'd been having some personal issues and had decided to go to the park to work out and have a scream session to release tension. The male was apologetic when advised about the alarm he'd caused, especially as the area is home to bears and cougars.
A single-vehicle accident occurred in the 6300 block of Highway 101 after a vehicle drove off the road and struck a telephone pole then continued on until it hit a tree. The driver appeared to have fallen asleep at the wheel. There was extensive damage to the vehicle, but neither the driver nor any of the young passengers suffered any injury.
