Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for June 7 to 14:
A digital camera found in the 700 block of School Road on June 4, was turned into RCMP. The camera, which has instructions in a foreign language, may be claimed by providing a detailed description by referencing file 11-3632.
On June 8, a thief broke into a vehicle parked in the 900 block of Gibsons Way by jimmying open a window and stole a variety of items including an iPod, cell phone and a large number of CDs.
A head-on collision occurred in the 600 block of Marine Drive after an eastbound vehicle crossed over the centre line and collided with a westbound vehicle. The westbound driver was unhurt, but the eastbound driver suffered minor injuries. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and had to be towed. Alcohol and speed were not factors, but the eastbound driver admitted she had been adjusting the radio just prior to the collision. She was issued a violation ticket for failing to keep right of a solid line.
A local resident reported he was the victim of fraud after his bank account had been accessed several times at ATM's in Mexico. The resident still had his bank card in his possession, so it is unknown how the thieves gained the account information. Sometime overnight June 10 and 11, a thief gained entry into a residence in the 400 block of Aldersprings Road and stole a big screen TV. The point of entry was a sliding door that did not lock properly.
Sometime overnight on June 11, thieves broke into a shed in the 5300 block of Norwest Bay Road by cutting off a padlock. The thieves stole a new 7021R Husqvarna lawn mower, a Stihl weed whacker and a tool box of assorted tools.
A group of Scouts found an abandoned dog in a ditch in the 2100 block of Lower Road. The dog was dehydrated, sick and suffering from neglect. A police officer took the dog to a local vet for care, and it is expected to survive after some extensive care. It will be turned over to the SPCA for adoption once it is fully recovered.
On June 12, a thief broke into a business in the 800 block of Gibsons Way by breaking two windows. It appears that access was gained, but no theft appears to have occurred, however, police are still investigating.
A possible impaired driver was reported on Highway 101 near Leek Road after a witness reported seeing a southbound vehicle swerving and even driving in the wrong lane. Police located the elderly driver at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way and advised him of the complaint. The driver exhibited some concerning driving ability, so a request for driver re-testing has been sent to ICBC.
On June 13, two male suspects were caught stealing firewood from a locked facility in the 6400 block of Sechelt Inlet Road. The suspects fled on foot before police arrived, leaving behind their vehicle. The firewood was unloaded and the vehicle was towed. The file is still under investigation.
