Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following this week:
A Coast resident received a call from a male who told her she had won a lottery. Then the male attempted to get personal details from the resident, asking her if she was a senior citizen, what her address was and other questions.
The male said he needed her address so that someone could come to the house to collect a lottery administration fee and to give her her prize. Fortunately, the resident was savvy enough not to divulge any info and she hung up on the caller. Police remind the public to be wary of such calls or letters, and to be very sure who is asking for info before divulging any personal details.
Between July 26 and 30 a six-foot piece of four-inch diametercopper piping was stolen from a construction site in the 5500 block of Highway 101.
On July 31, a three-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 101 at Wharf Road. A vehicle that was stopped in the left turn lane during a red light was rear-ended by another vehicle, which propelled the stopped vehicle into the vehicle in front of her. Only minor damage was reported. Police are following up with the other drivers.
On July 31,a thief broke into a residence in the 600 block of Farnham Road in Gibsons by kicking in the door.Neighbours reported hearingtwo loud bangs, but believed it might have been some kids playing. The resident, who had only recently moved intoher home, reported nothing was stolen, and believed the thieves may have been looking for drugs as theprevious owner had a medical marijuana licence.
Overnight on July 31, a vandal used a rock tosmash out windows of a truck that had been parked in the 1200 block of Chaster Road in Gibsons. Nothing was stolen.
On July 31, a resident in the 500 block of Wildwood Crescent called to report a black bear was in her carport. When police arrived, the bear was still on scene eating a bag of garbage that had been left out. The officers scared the unaggressive bear away and advised the Conservation Office. The resident was advised to clean up the garbage and to store it properly to discourage the bear from returning.
