Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Sept. 17 to 24:
Sometime around Sept. 17, a thief stole a large amount of geotextile fabric from a building site up the Sechelt Wilson Creek Forest Service Road.
On Sept. 19, police witnessed a southbound vehicle on Highway 101 in Roberts Creek travelling almost 50 km/hour over the posted speed limit. Police pulled the vehicle over and determined drugs or alcohol were not a factor. The driver advised he'd been speeding because he'd finally found a passing lane.
The driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
On Sept. 21, a possible impaired driver was reported westbound on Highway 101 in Roberts Creek. The witness provided a detailed description of the vehicle and driver including licence plate number. Police stopped the vehicle in Davis Bay and determined the driver was not intoxicated, but was exhibiting signs of drug impairment. The driver was issued and failed a standard field sobriety test and was transported back to the detachment for more tests.
The driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded. Pending positive drug test results, further charges may be laid.
On Sept. 22, a single-vehicle accident occurred in the 1600 block of Highway 101 after a westbound vehicle suddenly started swerving back-and-forth on the road before it slid into the ditch. The lone driver and occupant was unhurt and was not impaired, but she advised that she had been fiddling with the car stereo just before losing control.
The driver was issued a violation ticket for crossing the solid shoulder line and the heavily damaged vehicle was towed.
On Sept. 22, a single-vehicle accident occurred near Trout Lake Road in Halfmoon Bay, after a southbound vehicle began hydroplaning, lost control and went off the road.
Witnesses confirmed the driver was driving below the speed limit at the time of the collision. The driver and two passengers suffered minor injuries, but did not attend hospital. The vehicle was towed and no violation tickets were issued.
On Sept. 22, a single-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 101 near Brooks Road in Halfmoon Bay, after a southbound vehicle lost control, went off the road and crashed into a pole in the ditch.
The driver advised police that he had momentarily fallen asleep at the wheel. The driver, who was visiting from Europe, advised that he was tired as he and his two passengers had been participating in a Sasquatch Hunt on the weekend. One of the passengers sustained minor injuries, but refused medical assistance.
No violation ticket was issued and the vehicle was towed.
Between Sept. 21 and 22, a thief gained entry to a residence in the 3400 block of Beach Avenue in Roberts Creek, by opening an unsecured window and removing the interior screen. The thief appears to have walked around the premises, but nothing was stolen.
On Sept. 22, a thief stole two scooters that had been chained to a pole in the 5500 block of Highway 101 in Sechelt. One of the scooters was a silver Razor ultra pro and the other was a blue MGP with skull patterned grip tape. Police are reviewing surveillance footage.
