Weekly police report

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Feb. 14 to 21: A single-vehicle accident occurred on Heritage Road near Mason Road in Sechelt afteran "L" driver lost control while trying to avoid pot holes and ended up in the ditch.

The vehicle sustained significant damage and had to be towed.Speedis considered a factor. The driver wasgivenviolation tickets fordriving contrary to restrictions and speed relative to conditions.

A single-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 101 near Largo Road after a northbound vehicle lost control on a curve and ended up in a ditch. Paramedics took the lone driver and occupant to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.It appears the vehicle spun out of control, struck a high bank, spun back onto the highway, then back again to the right, and into the ditch where it came to a rest. The rear tires were found to have zero-tread on the crown. The driver was served a violation ticket for defective, illegal tires.

On Feb 15, a resident reported the smell of burning plastic in the 1400 block of Thompson Road in Langdale. Police attended and noted the strong smell and with assistance from the fire department, were able to locate a small, unattended backyard fire where plastic had melted on the rocks surrounding the fire. The fire was extinguished without further incident.

A resident in the 500 block of Bals Lane in Gibsons reported someone had put something in her vehicle's gas tank, causing it to run poorly. The resident had noticed her vehicle start running strangely in late January and a recent mechanical inspection revealed the mischief.

Late on Feb. 17, a female suspect, wearing sunglasses, a ball cap, hoodie and pink pants, was witnessed stealing a couple of bottles of alcohol from a business on Teredo Street in Sechelt. Police are reviewing security footage.

On Feb. 19, a single-vehicle accident occurred on Roberts Creek Road near Cedar Grove Road after the driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a concrete no-post, flipping the vehicle onto the driver's side. The vehicle then struck a hydro-pole, spun 180 degrees and came to a rest on its wheels. Both the driver and passenger were taken to hospital to be checked over and the vehicle was towed. Alcohol is not considered a factor.

Early on Feb. 19, numerous residences on Tamarack Place, Les Way Road, and Bluegrouse Road in Sechelt were hit by vandals bearing paintball guns. One of the residents heard a vehicle with a loud muffler in the area around 1:30 a.m., but no vehicle description or licence plate was obtained. Anyone with any information about this mischief is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266 and reference file 12-943.

Police would like to remind motorists travelling along the detour route through Davis Bay during the road construction that all stop signs along the way are to be obeyed. Several complaints of near misses have been received and officers will be conducting traffic enforcement in the area.

On Feb. 19, a shoplifter stole a black faux fur coat from a store in the 5700 block of Cowrie Street in Sechelt. A female suspect was caught on surveillance footage. The file is still under investigation.

On Feb. 18, a hit and run accident occurred on Anchor Road in Sechelt when a parked vehicle was sideswiped by the suspect vehicle, causing damage to the rear driver's side quarter panel and back window. No note or witnesses were found.
