Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for July 10 to 17:
On July 10, an on-duty officer witnessed a vehicle speeding on Gibsons Way near Henry Road and initiated a traffic stop. Upon approaching the driver's side, the officer noticed the odour of alcohol. The driver advised he'd had half a beer 15 minutes prior to the stop. The driver was given a roadside alcohol-screening test that resulted in a "warn" reading. The driver's licence was seized, he was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and his sober passenger was permitted to drive him home.
Overnight on July 10, unknown suspects entered a garage in the 600 block of Marine Drive and overturned garbage bins onto a car and stole a chair. The chair was recovered on a nearby beach next to a smouldering bon fire.
On July 10, a thief stole a painted yellow aluminium boat from a residence in the 5900 block of Highway 101. A camera and accessories were found outside an address in the 5700 block of Pebble Crescent. The owner may claim with detailed description of items, reference file 12-4545 at the detachment in Sechelt.
On July 11, a thief stole a silver-plated tea set from a business in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street. The set included a tray, a creamer, a sugar bowl and two pots.
On July 11, a thief broke into a residence in the 6400 block of Highway 101 by using a pry bar to force open a door. The thief targeted a bedroom and stole some jewelry, a Toshiba laptop computer, a portable DVD player with various DVDs and a box of Cuban cigars.
A Gibsons resident reported a suspicious email advising him that a package was being held for him at the post office. The resident contacted the post office, which advised they had no packages for him. The email contained an attachment which supposedly contained delivery information, but which is actually a virus.
Police remind the public to be very wary of such emails, and to educate themselves on scams by going to websites such as www.phonebusters.comor www.antifraudcentre.ca.
On July 8, a tourist lost her silver Fuji camera while waiting for a bus in Gibsons. The camera was in a green and black bag.
On July 16, reports of gunshots came in from Homesite Creek Campground. Police made patrols and located a resident on a nearby property who had just finished target practice on private land. The resident had set up a safe target range and had a valid firearms licence.
