Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Sept. 4 to 11:
Overnight on Sept. 4, a thief stole a 2007 white Honda motorcycle, model CBR1 from a residence in the 1200 block Paggio Road in Roberts Creek. The thief also stole a white motorcycle helmet with a "skull sk8tes" sticker on it, as well as a battery charger.
Sometime between Sept. 3 and 4, a thief broke into a residence in the 5200 block of Havies Road in Sechelt. The thief appeared to have broken a kitchen window to gain entry. The thief searched through drawers and stole a small amount of U.S. and Canadian cash.
On Sept. 5, a resident in Davis Bay reported hearing blood-curdling screams and angry shouting coming from a house near Whitaker Road and Davis Bay Road. Officers attended and located a couple in their back yard. The woman advised she had been startled when a large spider jumped on her, resulting in her screams and shouts. The police were satisfied nothing further was amiss and the complainant was advised.
Between Aug. 28 and Sept. 4, two incidents of fraud occurred at a business in the 5600 block of Wharf Road in Sechelt. In both instances, the same suspect made large purchases over the phone using what was later determined to be a stolen credit card.
The suspect requested the first order of goods be shipped via bus to Squamish. The second purchase, made using the same credit card number, was picked up at the business by a Caucasian female in her 30's, about 5'2" tall with a slender build, dirty blonde hair and driving an older model blue pick-up truck.
The stolen credit card number turned out to belong to a resident of Nova Scotia. Both the credit card company and police are investigating the matter.
On Sept. 5, a thief used a rock to break a window of a vehicle parked on East Porpoise Bay Road near the provincial park entrance and stole a black pair of men's size 12 Bauer hockey skates and two hockey sticks. The sports equipment had been left behind the driver's seat. The thief also stole some CDs.
On Sept. 5, an officer witnessed a driver southbound in the 5700 block of Teredo Street in Sechelt using his cell phone. The officer pulled the vehicle over and upon speaking to the driver, noted the smell of alcohol. The driver was given a roadside alcohol-screening test that resulted in a 'warn' reading. The driver was issued a seven-day immediate roadside prohibition and a violation ticket for using an electronic device while driving.
On Sept. 5, a possible impaired driver was reported in the 1100 block of Highway 101. The driver and vehicle were located nearby and the officer, noting the smell of alcohol and other signs of intoxication, gave the driver a roadside alcohol-screening test that resulted in a 'fail' reading. The driver, who admitted to consuming alcohol shortly before driving, was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, his vehicle was impounded and his driver's licence was seized.
RCMP are urging residents to thoroughly investigate any job postings they apply for through job search/employment websites. Any posting that asks you to provide money up front and through money order should be questioned and verified, especially those jobs that offer working from home or involve traveling to foreign countries.
A Sunshine Coast resident was recently offered a position at a resort in Malaysia and was requested to provide the resort with 50 per cent of the money required to relocate via money order. The resident found this odd and looked into the matter by calling the resort directly, only to discover that an ex-employee of the resort was posting false job ads in order to swindle people of money. The hotel has reported the incident to their local authorities and the fraudulent job posting has been removed.
On Sept. 10, a thief tried to break into a three shipping containers located outside a business in the 4300 block of Highway 101. The thief attempted to saw through the locks and managed to gain entry to two of the three containers. However, it doesn't appear that anything was stolen.
