Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Oct. 15 to 22:
On Oct. 15 RCMP received a report of a large theft of copper from St. Mary's Hospital, believed to have occurred sometime in August. The copper was housed in a large bin and it is estimated that approximately 500 pounds of copper was stolen. Due to the size of the bin, it is believed that the thieves would have had access to a large pick-up, possibly a crane truck. Anyone with information on this theft are urged to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266 and reference file 2013-7315.
On Oct. 16 RCMP, paramedics and the Sechelt fire department responded to a report of a truck that had lost control while the driver was attempting to trailer a boat. RCMP learned that the driver had backed his vehicle down the ramp and was in the process of trailering his boat, but failed to place his vehicle in park. The vehicle and trailer rolled into the ocean and became submerged. Due to the tide, the owner was required to wait several hours before his vehicle could be pulled from the water
On Oct. 17 RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 101 near Bay Road in Davis Bay. The collision occurred when the first vehicle, travelling southbound was stopped by a flagger for road construction. A second vehicle, also travelling southbound, rear-ended the first vehicle after looking away for a moment, as she did not see the vehicle stop in front of her. Damage to the vehicles was moderate and there were no injuries reported.
On Oct. 17 RCMP attended the Langdale ferry terminal after witnesses reported seeing occupants of a vehicle drinking beer while travelling on the ferry to Langdale. Police waited for the vehicle to unload and stopped the vehicle in question. Police noted the odour of alcohol on the driver's breath and a breath sample was obtained. The driver blew under the legal limit and admitted to police that he and his passengers had been drinking while on the ferry. All parties received a warning.
On Oct. 17, RCMP attended the Langdale ferry terminal after receiving a report of a male causing a disturbance in the parking lot. RCMP attended and located a very intoxicated male walking through the parking lot begging for a ride. Police confronted the male, who threw a wine bottle at police. The male, who is well-known to police, was arrested for 'causing a disturbance' and was lodged in cells until he sobered up.
On Oct. 18 RCMP received a report of three thefts from vehicles on Ebbtide Street in Sechelt. Suspects entered four unlocked vehicles and stole tools from two vehicles, however left a cell phone in the other. The tools were later located at a different location and returned to the owner. The owner of the cell phone has been identified and is known to police. Anyone with information on this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2013-7412.
On Oct. 18 at approximately 2 p.m., police stopped a vehicle after it made a u-turn after seeing police roadside with another vehicle on Joe Road in Roberts Creek. Police noted an odour of liquor on the breath of the male driver. The driver admitted that he had been drinking. Two breath samples were obtained from the driver, both resulting in a 'fail' reading. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impound.
On Oct. 18 at approximately 9:30 p.m. RCMP pulled over a vehicle after noticing that it had failed to come to a complete stop at the intersection of Dolphin and Inlet Avenue in Sechelt. A 25-year-old male was located in the driver's seat, along with a 27-year-old woman and her four-year-old child. Police noted an odour of liquor on the breath of the driver while speaking to him and two breath samples were obtained, both resulting in 'fail' readings. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. Police contacted the Ministry of Children and Families and all passengers were transported to their residence.
On Oct. 18 at approximately 11:15 p.m. Traffic Services were conducting a counter-attack road check on Highway 101 and Monkey Tree Lane. Police initiated an impaired driving investigation after detecting odour on the breath of a male driver. The driver admitted to drinking earlier in the evening, and as a result, two breath samples were obtained from the driver, both resulting in a 'warn' reading. The driver was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and a sober passenger drove his vehicle home.
