Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for May 8 to 15:
On May 8, a male suspect was reported shoplifting from a business in the 5500 block of Highway 101. The suspect was witnessed taking a number of meat products, placing them in a bag then concealing the bag under his coat. The suspect then walked out without paying.
One witness assisted staff in pursuing the suspect, but lost sight of him after he ran into a residential area. RCMP are attempting to locate the suspect.
On May 9, RCMP attended a single-vehicle collision on Garden Bay Road near Corniche Road after the driver, who sustained minor injuries, reported taking the corner and losing control of his vehicle. The vehicle then slid into a ditch and flipped over onto its roof.
Scene and vehicle examination showed that the vehicle's radiator had leaked a large amount of fluid onto the road, covering the tires and making conditions slick. The damaged vehicle was towed.
On May 9, RCMP attended a single-vehicle collision on Reed Road near Jenean Road in Gibsons after a passerby reported a vehicle in the ditch. RCMP, ambulance and fire crews attended, but found there were no occupants or signs of trauma. The owner was located later, and he advised he'd been distracted by his dog who was in the back of the truck, caught a washed out shoulder and lost control, ending up in the ditch. No violation tickets were issued.
On May 7, a thief broke into a vacant business in the 500 block of Gibsons Way and stole a bag of assorted tools. The thief gained entry by prying open a window. The tools were recovered nearby. No other theft was reported.
On May 14, a two-vehicle collision occurred in the intersection of Trail Avenue and Teredo Street after northbound vehicle struck a second vehicle that was crossing from Trail. The driver of crossing vehicle advised seeing the northbound vehicles' blinker indicating it would be turning, so proceeded through the intersection, however the northbound vehicle did not turn, instead, continued straight through the intersection. The driver advised he did have his turn signal activated for a previous turn and was unsure if the signal had been disengaged.
No injuries were reported.
On May 14, a thief broke into a residence in the 5800 block of Mukway Road in Sechelt and stole a variety of jewelry, Native salmon carvings and cash. The file is still under investigation.
Overnight on May 11, thieves gained entry into an unlocked vehicle parked in the 5800 block of Heron Place in Sechelt. The thieves stole a Garmin Nuvi GPS and a cell phone charger.
Surveillance video from the area showed two females rifling through several vehicles in the area. One suspect is described as late teens, blonde haired, wearing a sweater and black toque. The file is still under investigation.
Overnight on May 11, a thief stole a purse from an unlocked residence in the 5700 block of Neptune Road in Sechelt. The purse had been left near the door. The wallet from the purse was recovered down the street, intact except a bank card. The thief also stole a light blue iPod Nano and a pair of Wicked Audio head phones.
On May 11, a single-vehicle collision occurred on Sechelt Inlet Road near Sandy Hook Road. A witness reported seeing a vehicle speed past him and end up in the ditch. Police attended and located the vehicle parked in the 7400 block of Sechelt Inlet Road. The driver was located and taken to hospital for treatment of a minor injury.
The driver, who admitted to having alcohol at dinner, was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care.
On May 12, a single-vehicle collision was reported on Highway 101 near Joe Road in Roberts Creek after a northbound vehicle attempted a left turn onto Joe Road and cut off a southbound vehicle. The southbound vehicle swerved in order to avoid a collision and ended up in a ditch sustaining minor damage. The driver of the northbound vehicle was issued a violation ticket for fail to yield to oncoming vehicle.
