Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for the week of Sept. 23 to 29:
Sometime over the last two weeks, a thief stole a number of two-inch by 18-inch business signs for Paul's Chimney from various addresses in Halfmoon Bay, Secret Cove, Garden Bay and Pender Harbour. The white signs had red and black lettering and were staked into the ground.
On the afternoon of Sept. 25, a thief broke into a residence in the 4500 block of Francis Peninsula Road and stole two cartons of cigarettes. The thief gained entry by breaking a window with a piece of wood. Nothing else was damaged or stolen.
Sometime between Sept. 22 and 24, a thief stole some cash from an address in the 800 block of North Road. The cash consisted of an assortment of old American and Canadian bills; the Canadian bills all have the initial "WJG" inscribed on the corner.
On Sept. 26, a thief stole a purse from a shopper at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way. The shopper was in the check-out line when the theft occurred. The dark orange Coach purse contained cash and credit cards as well as a black Samsung Galaxy Nexus touch screen phone. Police are reviewing security footage. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 12-6812.??
Since mid-August and mid-September, a number of small water craft (aluminum boats with a glue-repaired side and several kayaks) have been reported stolen from the Roberts Creek area (Flume, Beach and Lower roads). In all cases, the items were not secured or locked away.
In the early evening of Sept. 26, a resident in the 5700 block of Dolphin Street was surprised to find an unknown male inside her home. The suspect, described as a tall, slim, dark-haired (buzz cut) Caucasian male in his 20s or 30s, stole a small change purse and wallet that had been in the bedroom. The suspect fled the house in a light coloured, boxy sports utility vehicle. Police have since identified the vehicle and the file is still under investigation.
Between Sept. 23 and 24, a thief broke into a sailboat moored at Piper Point by breaking the hinges on the hatch to gain entry into the cabin. The suspect stole a pair of Cobra walkie-talkies, a Norstar scope and Bushnell green and chrome tripod, a blue and black Roots folding chair, a crab trap, a Buzzbomb fishing rod and a camouflage duffel bag containing charts and maps.?
On Sept. 29, police stopped a possible impaired driver during a roadblock check on Highway 101 near Largo Road. The driver admitted to consuming a couple of glasses of wine earlier in the evening. The driver was given a roadside alcohol screening test which resulted in a 'fail'. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and her vehicle was impounded.
On Sept. 30, a break and enter was reported at a residence in the 6800 block of Highway 101. The suspect attempted to pry the door open, and then used a piece of wood to create a bridge from a rock cliff to an open second storey window. The thief stole two jewelry boxes full of costume jewelry and rifled through some drawers, but nothing else was stolen.
On Sept. 30, a report of a single vehicle incident came in from the intersection of Fairway Avenue and Shoal Way after a resident witnessed a vehicle roll over in the street and two female occupants flee on foot. Police arrived on scene to find an empty vehicle. The driver appears to have lost control while travelling south on Fairway Avenue and struck a cement barrier and street sign before the vehicle rolled over. The heavily damaged vehicle, which was not reported stolen, was towed. Police are attempting to locate the two females.
