Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for April 3 to 10: A Coast resident received a letter advising her she'd been selected to be a "mystery shopper" as well, received two cheques for large sums of money.

A Coast resident received a letter advising her she'd been selected to be a "mystery shopper" as well, received two cheques for large sums of money.

The resident was instructed to keep some of the money to use as a mystery shopper and as training pay, and to wire the balance back to other parties via a common money transfer service. The reason given was that the company was conducting an evaluation of these services. The resident took the cheques to her bank and confirmed that they were fraudulent.

On April 5, police responded to an address in the 6000 block of Ripple Way in Sechelt after a witness reported a loud bang and flash of light in the area. Police located a homeowner who advised he'd set off a bear banger to demonstrate it for a friend, and had the empty bear banger shell for confirmation. No other suspicious incidents were reported and no damage occurred.

On April 5, a camera was found in lower Gibsons and was turned in to the Gibsons office. A couple of hours later, a tourist from Salmon Arm attended the office to report his lost camera and was thrilled to find it there. Unfortunately, the camera was damaged, but the memory card with more than 1,000 photos on it was intact.

On April 6, police attended to multi-vehicle collision that occurred in the 13300-13500 block of Highway 101. A heavy hail storm created slippery road conditions, and two vehicles and one motorcycle lost control and ended up off-road, or in one case, upside down in a ditch. Damage varied from moderate to minor, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. No violation tickets were issued.

On April 6, a resident in the 5200 block of Fullerton Road in Halfmoon Bay reported hearing a single gunshot. Police attended and located a small group of people gathered around a campfire. When questioned, they advised they had set off an "air banger" as part of a wake ceremony. The complainant was advised.??

Overnight on April 7, vandals stole paper towel dispensers from the public washrooms at Coopers Green Park in Halfmoon Bay. This kind of mischief and theft has been an on-going problem at the facility. Anyone with any information about this vandalism is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266, reference file 12-2060.

On April 7, an on-duty officer stopped a vehicle for speeding in a 60-km zone on Highway 101 near Iska Road in Middlepoint. The officer noticed the driver smelled of alcohol and when questioned, the driver admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier. The driver was given and failed a roadside alcohol-screening test. The driver was arrested for driving while impaired and issued a 90-day driving prohibition. The passenger, who was sober, was allowed to take the vehicle home.??

On April 9, police responded to a possible break and enter in progress in the 4300 block of Highway 101. Witnesses reported two teenage males attempting to pry off plywood barriers from the rear of a building in the area. Both youth fled on foot when the witnesses confronted them. One youth was described as approximately 5'4", chubby build with a red afro, wearing blue jeans. The second male was approximately 5'4", medium build, with short dark hair. Entry into the building was not gained and no damage was reported.
