Weekly police report

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Feb. 21 to 28: Between Feb. 15 and 21, suspect(s) broke into a residence in the 6300 block of Menacher Road in Madeira Park. The suspect(s) smashed a patio door to gain entry.

Between Feb. 15 and 21, suspect(s) broke into a residence in the 6300 block of Menacher Road in Madeira Park. The suspect(s) smashed a patio door to gain entry. While nothing appears to have been stolen, the suspect(s) used one of the beds and bathrooms. The file is still under investigation.

On Feb. 22, a thief gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in front of a business in the 900 block of GibsonsWayand stole a handicapped-parking permit. Nothing else was stolen and no damage was reported.

On Feb. 22 around 6 p.m. a vandal threw an egg at a vehicle heading northbound on East Porpoise Bay Road in Sechelt. The egg did not cause any damage to the vehicle, but the driver was startled. The driver did not see any suspects, but the egg came from the east side of the roadway. Patrols for suspects were made, but were negative.

On Feb. 23, a complainant reported a vehicle racing around the track at Elphinstone Secondary School. Police attended and learned that a late night shop class was in progress and that one of the students, unaware he wasn't to use the track to test vehicles, had taken a dirt bike for a test run.All parties agreed to discontinue the noise.

Late on Feb. 22, an on-duty officer observed a vehicle in front of him repeatedly swerving back and forth from the centre line to the right shoulder. The officer initiated a traffic stop and detected signs of driver impairment. The driver admitted to having consumed alcohol shortly before driving, and agreed to a roadside alcohol-screening test. The result was a 'warn', so the driver was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and the vehicle was towed to the owner's home.

Early on Feb. 23, a single-vehicle accident was reported after a vehicle was found crashed and rolled over in a ditch on Garden Bay Road just west of Hammond Road. The occupant(s) had left the scene by the time police arrived. It appears thevehicle wastravelling eastbound on Garden Bay Road when the driverfailed to negotiate asharp curve, crossed over the centre line, spun 90 degrees and struck a cliff wall head on. Police are attempting to locate the registered owner.

On Feb. 24, a witness reported that an known "L" driverwasheading southbound on Highway from South Fletcher Road in Gibsons with no supervisor in the vehicle. An officer located the suspect vehicle and attempted to pullit over, but the vehicle continued on, until it made a turn off Jack Road. The driver, who also did not have an "L" on display as required, was issued two violationstickets for drive contrary to restrictions and the vehicle was towed.

On Feb. 25, a resident in the 900 block of Davis Road in Gibsons reported a vehicle in the ditch. The undamaged vehicle was empty and locked when the officer arrived on scene. A witness reported seeing a male and female in the area. The office located the couple and determined the female to be the registered owner of the vehicle. The female admitted to having consumed alcohol and was issued a 24-hour driving suspension.

Overnight on Feb. 26, a thief stole an unlocked vehicle parked in the 2100 block of Port Mellon Highway. The keys had been left in the cup holder. The stolen vehicle is a 2001 four-door brown Chrysler Neon, B.C. licence plate 781-RBB. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266 and reference file12-1115.

Sometime between Feb. 26 and 27, a thief siphoned gas from a vehicle parked in the 700 block of Reed Road in Gibsons. The thief stole the gas cap as well.
