Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for April 15 to 23: On April 15, a report of an erratic driver came in from the Earls Cove ferry terminal in Egmont after a vehicle was seen speeding.

On April 15, a report of an erratic driver came in from the Earls Cove ferry terminal in Egmont after a vehicle was seen speeding. Police located the vehicle southbound on Highway 101 speeding at more than 40 km over the posted speed limit as well as passing a long line of cars.

Police stopped the vehicle and advised the driver she would be issued a ticket and her vehicle would be impounded for seven days for excessive speeding. Police had to pull the vehicle over a second time when the driver tried to leave while police were still roadside with her. The driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed and failing to stop for police and her vehicle was impounded.

On April 18, a multi-vehicle collision occurred in the 2400 block of Highway 101 in Roberts Creek after the first vehicle slowed to make a right turn into a driveway. A second vehicle slowed to allow the first vehicle to make the turn, but a third vehicle did not notice the slowed vehicles and rear-ended the second vehicle, which in turn rear-ended the first one. Fortunately, no major injuries occurred and damage to the vehicles appeared minor.

On April 19, police attended a single-vehicle collision in the 8800 block of the Highway 101 in Halfmoon Bay. The driver, who was the lone occupant in the vehicle, was taken to hospital for minor injuries. The driver advised that he had over-corrected going around the curve and ended up on the shoulder where he lost control and the vehicle flipped over before landing on its roof.

On April 19, a Lower Mainland resident reported a case of identity theft by a suspect living on the Sunshine Coast. The resident had her purse containing all of her identification stolen in the Lower Mainland in January. The suspect appears to have opened up a fraudulent business account using the resident's identification, and purchased a large amount of goods.

Police remind residents not to keep valuable identification such as SIN cards, birth certificates and passports in their wallets unless required.

On April 19, a two-vehicle collision occurred eastbound on Gibsons Way at North Road after the first vehicle struck a second vehicle from behind. The struck vehicle sustained significant damage, but no serious injuries were reported. The driver of the first vehicle was issued a violation ticket for speeding contrary to conditions.

On April 19, police witnessed a vehicle on Highway 101 near Francis Peninsula Road in Madeira Park driving more than 20 km over the posted speed limit on a corner. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver, who exhibited signs of impairment, was transported to cells and given a standard field sobriety test. The driver was issued a 24-hour driving suspension for drugs and his vehicle was impounded for 24-hours. Police obtained a urine sample from the driver, which has been sent away for drug analysis. The investigation is on-going.

On April 20, police witnessed a vehicle driving more than 30 km over the posted speed limit on Highway 101 near Selma Park Road in Sechelt. Police pulled the vehicle over and spoke with the driver who exhibited signs of intoxication. The driver advised he'd consumed alcohol an hour prior to driving and was given a roadside alcohol-screening test. After a fail result, the driver was issued a warning for speeding, a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

On April 20 and 21 during a check-stop on Lower Road and Cheryl Ann Park Road in Roberts Creek, police pulled over one impaired driver who received a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, one unlicenced driver in a unsafe vehicle who was also a vehicle impound and prohibited driver candidate, and one driver impaired by drugs who was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition.

On April 22, a two-vehicle collision occurred in the 5100 block of Highway 101 in Selma Park after a northbound truck rear-ended a motorcycle that was slowing down to make a right turn off the highway. The motorcyclist was not thrown from his bike and fortunately, only sustained minor injuries. The other driver, who braked hard in an attempt to avoid the collision, was also unhurt.

On April 22, a possible impaired driver was reported by a witness who saw a vehicle swerving all over the road and driving at erratic speeds in the 5200 block of Highway 101 in Selma Park. The witness was able to provide a vehicle description and licence plate. Police spoke with the registered owner and determined the driver had been suffering a medical episode, which led to his erratic driving. The driver agreed he would be taking steps to ensure this wouldn't happen again.
